Barnawapara Sanctuary

It is located in the northern part of Mahasamund district of Chattisgarh, at a distance of 85 km from the Raipur airport. It covers a relatively small area of 245 sq km and the topography comprises of flat and hilly terrain. The lush green vegetation of the Sanctuary comprises of tropical dry deciduous forest flora which includes trees like Teak, Sal, Bamboo and Terminalia and plants like Seemal, Mahua, Ber and Tendu. The wildlife variety ranges from small animals like Sloth bear, Flying Squirrels, Jackals, Black Bucks, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Monkey to Four-horned Antelope, Leopards, Chinkara, Bison, Striped Hyena, Wild Dogs, Chital, Sambhar, Nilgai, Gaur, Wild Boar, Cobra, Python and Tiger. The bird population includes such members as Parrots, Bulbul, Peafowl, Woodpeckers, Egrets, Herons, White Rumped Vultures, Lesser Kestrels, Racket-tailed Drongos etc.
